Megan McDermett is a Registered Dietitian specializing in the treatment of eating disorders, disordered eating, and chronic dieting. Megan is a Dallas native who graduated from the University of Georgia with a BS in dietetics and later went on to complete her dietetic internship with Indiana University in Indianapolis, IN. Through the help of a colleague, Megan was introduced to Intuitive Eating and began educating herself on the negative effects of dieting. She began implementing the principles of intuitive eating in sessions with her clients, began giving presentations and started group classes on the principles of intuitive eating. Still, it felt like there was so much to learn and so much more to do in this field.  In April 2019, Megan returned to Dallas to continue her education on treating disordered eating and eating disorders and joined the team at Eating Recovery Center to work with patients at the inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient levels of care.

Megan has experience working with clients of all ages and a variety of eating disorder diagnoses including Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, and ARFID. Megan provides both individual and family nutritional counseling so that she can educate families on how to best support their loved one in recovery. Megan is an active member of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedp) and has fulfilled all the requirements to become a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS).

Megan believes in a collaborative approach with therapists, psychiatrists, and families in the treatment of eating disorders because no one gets better by themselves. Megan is passionate that all foods fit and that there are no “good” foods or “bad” foods. Megan works with her patients to find flexibility in their eating so that they can truly re-engage in the joyful and meaningful parts of their lives.
