How common are Eating Disorders?
It is a common misconception that eating disorders only affect young, middle to upper class, white females. Eating disorders effect women and men (yes, men) of all ages from a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds.
Most people do not realize that eating disorders do not look the same physically for each individual.
Often people think of the stereotypical frail anorexic when they hear eating disorder, but eating disorders come in all body shapes and sizes. People affected by eating disorders may appear frail/underweight, be a normal weight for that height, or even be considered overweight. Eating disorders do not come in one size.
Below are some statistics that may explain just how many different individuals suffer from an eating disorder everyday. If you or someone you know struggles from an eating disorder and needs help please visit my contact page or email me directly at caseyvoorhies@gmail.com.
