What To Expect When You Visit Dallas Nutritional Counseling

Seeking help is the first step towards recovery from your eating disorder. However, we know it can be intimidating to walk into any clinical provider’s office for the first time.

Below is a little bit about our practice and what you can expect when you visit us. We hope this helps ease any nerves you may have!

Who we are…

We are a Health at Every Size® practice that exclusively uses a non-diet or anti-diet approach to help our clients heal their relationship with food and body.

Why it is beneficial to have a registered dietitian as part of your treatment team…

A registered dietitian can support you in recovery by helping you process beliefs surrounding food, weight, and body image. Focusing on these beliefs in our sessions allows you utilize your therapy appointments for other topics.

For the first visit…

  • A parent should be present with an adolescent patient for the first visit. Parental attendance is optional for follow-up appointments.

  • Please complete all paperwork before your first visit so we are able to utilize your entire appointment time for treatment.

  • If we need to take your weight, it will be taken blindly. This also goes for follow-up appointments.

  • In order to provide you with individualized nutrition counseling, we will discuss your dieting history, medical history, and any experiences with disordered eating behaviors. Because many food beliefs and rituals are learned, we will also discuss family history of these topics.

  • Goal setting is an important part of recovery. We will establish what you hope to accomplish through your sessions in your initial assessment. During your follow-up appointments, your provider will help you strategize on ways to meet your goals using individualized nutrition recommendations, education, and support.
