Meditation is the practice of using breathwork to train your attention. When you practice meditation consistently, you will be more in tune with your thoughts and be able to separate them from your actions.
Why is body awareness important for eating disorder recovery?
Eating disorders thrive when you are disconnected from your body. Think about it, could you really deprive the body from it’s basic needs if you were fully feeling the effects of that deprivation? Perhaps you could for some time, but it would begin to be very hard. Eating disorder behaviors enable you to disconnect from your physical sensations. This could be hunger, fullness, thirst, pain, or emotions. Sometimes this is just a result of the eating disorder or it can be the way it functions for the individual.
Body connection and awareness is one very important element to eating disorder recovery. A guided body awareness meditation is one way you can begin to practice body connection in a way that feels more safe and/or less threatening.

Eating disorders impact the entire family system, and while so much of the treatment process is focused on the client, the caregivers tend to struggle at home with minimal support. Join Dallas Nutritional Counseling for a two-hour parent workshop, where we will bridge the gap between what the client needs and what the family needs. In this workshop you will gain a deeper understanding of the vital role you play in the recovery process, connect with other families going through the recovery process, and feel more confident in supporting your loved one. We will also be joined by Hila Eyal whose daughter struggled with an eating disorder and now is in recovery. Hila will share their family story of how they navigated the recovery process at the beginning, in the middle, and now ongoing.
